Has anyone ever heard of MissTravel.com? Neither had I until I saw an article on YourTango called “7 Dating Websites You Won’t Believe Exist” (http://www.yourtango.com/2013187846/7-weirdest-dating-sites) and this was the first one listed. Out of simple curiosity I did some research on it. It’s been called everything from a new, modern dating technique to online prostitution. I think it’s all in how you look at it. I found several YouTube videos of interviews with the owner and CEO Brandon Wade where he brings the obvious point many people seem to overlook: we live in a world of consenting adults, it’s entirely their choice.
The website is separated into two categories: generous and attractive. You’re either attractive, love to travel, and can’t afford it. Or you’re generous, need someone to travel with, and are willing to foot the bill. I think these two distinctions are what throw people off. The majority of ‘generous’ are men, and the ‘attractive’ are generally women, but there are plenty in the opposite categories. Even some men seeking men, and women seeking women. Relationships, friendships, marriage-minded, and of course like any dating site, there is a casual option. Many women who have been interviewed have said they feel no obligation to provide any romance to the partners they’re with unless they see a connection forming. I’ve read interviews with women who are still friends and repeatedly travel with the same men, or a select few. One woman is even engaged to a guy she met in person for the first time upon arriving in the Bahamas. These interviews are easy to find on YouTube, just type in ‘Miss Travel’.
Now, if you’re wondering why I’ve brought up this topic now, I’ve decided to give it a go and experiment with a new dating website. I’ve only ever been on one or two sites and never had any luck, so I figure why not try this one. If you’ve been following my blog (or recently caught up with past posts), I’ve been living internationally for 2 years and traveling for 3. It’s my dream to visit every continent and swim in every ocean. I’ve only swan in the Pacific, Atlantic, and I have to throw in the Mediterranean. I’ve been to North (and Central) America (I’m Texan after all, haha), Europe, and Australia, and I guess you can’t count my layovers in Asia, boo.
What follows from here on will be over the course of a month or two about my experience with this site. No, I won’t be doing any major traveling with anyone, but meeting for brunch with an out-of-towner might be fun. I’ll keep you updated.
