So what I’ve learned in the last week: I HATE snow. The novelty has officially worn off, lol. Had to learn to shovel snow, too. Playing in it is only fun for so long until you’re frozen…. but I LOVE seeing Klarka’s face when we let her go out and run around in it. All rosy-cheeked and she always sleeps well after.
I’ve officially applied for my long term visa. We took a 4 hour train to Bratislava Sunday morning, explored a bit, and had an appointment at 10am at the Czech Consulate on Monday morning. When Karin said she’d called a taxi to pick us up at the train station, I pictured yellow car or a car with the taxi sign on top… not a sleek black BMW with a driver in a nice black suit holding a sign with her name on it, lol. Breakfast at the hotel Monday morning and then another driver to the embassy. The lady there was beyond rude and it took a lot to bite my tongue and just answer her questions. Karin was even surprised at how awful she was acting, but I got it all done. Quick trip back to the hotel and then on the 12:13pm train back to Prague. A 4 hour train ride sounds a little unbearable, but it’s actually not really that bad. The time went by pretty fast especially since Karin is so easy to talk to and Klarka is easily satisfied by the iPad, ha ha. Bratislava was on my list of places to see, and it’s actually not that much to see. Kinda muddy, really small and a bit warmer than Prague since it’s to the south.
If my visa can’t come in, we have several more plans that range from my leaving the Schengen Zone to Bulgaria, Ireland or Romania for 3 weeks, to me enrolling in university and getting a student visa. We’ll see what happens. Karin seems determined to have me stay and I really want to. I love it here. Luke, Sarah, Chelsea, Gretta, Dallas, Lisa, etc… y’all sooo need to come visit me!! Mom, you too!! Lol.
Took the subway from the train station to the city garage where we parked our already packed car. Turns out Prague decided to have a snow storm when we arrived back in town. Karin isn’t fond of driving on the highway, she downright hates it…. so I drove… in a snow storm… on a highway where the speed limit is 130mph. Don’t worry, I stayed around 100-110 and we made it just fine, lol. 3.5 hour drive here to the mountains. It’s gorgeous up here, but it’s gonna get to -21C!! OMG!! I’m already freezing at -13C!! Upon arrival, we had to take a snow truck up the mountain, drag our stuff to our rooms, but leave our snowy boots downstairs. Last night I had some awesome garlic soup, but we were also treated to the owner’s (Karin’s friends) best pear moonshine. Actually really good!! The owner was a little shocked to see me (a young American girl) put away the shots to easily, ha ha. Regular buffet breakfast… but at lunch I chose gnocchi with sourkraut and sausage, just to try something new.. OMG it was soo good!! Om nom nom!! My diet is soo ruined here. Amazing chocolate, amazing food. Now my goal is to justn ot break anything, ha ha. At least here, Im not fully on duty, just mostly when Karin needs to get some work done or has her hands full with Klarka.
I’ll keep y’all updated with pics this week. We’re spending a full week here so expect bunches 🙂
